Henderson Valley School is an active, competitive and fair-play school. The students are provided with a wide range of sporting opportunities across all year levels. Teachers teach sport skills as an important part of the classroom's weekly routine. We run the Kiwisport Activator programme which works with teachers and students with the goal of improving skills from a young age and encouraging more children to enjoy and participate in sport.
There are also various sporting teams to join in order for children to showcase their talents.
A particular strength of Henderson Valley is the hockey programme. We have an astroturf and the school has participated in the Auckland Hockey Saturday competition for many years. Currently we have 7 hockey teams. The top team is currently 1st in the premier competition for their age group. Children can start playing hockey as soon as they start school at the age of 5 and many play for their entire time at Henderson Valley. For more information on hockey contact Mr Te Tai.
We also participate in Saturday netball. We currently have a Year 4 and a Year 5 team. We are always looking to offer this fantastic sporting opportunity to a wider group of students.
Henderson Valley is part of the Henderson Sports Cluster and our school competes against other local schools at least twice a term. These sports include swimming, athletics, cross country, softball, soccer, hockey, netball, gymnastics, basketball and touch. These interschool competitions teach the children sportmanship, develop competitive spirit and cooperative teamwork.
Community support is paramount to the running of a successful sports programme. These sporting opportunities are only possible due to the support of the parents and teachers of, who make up a majority of the teams coaches and managers. If you would like more information about sport in our school, then check the noticeboard outside Room 11 or see Mr Te Tai in Room 10.
