As well as their weekly lessons, children have the opportunity to learn to play a variety of instruments. The marimbas at Henderson Valley are locally crafted instruments that are carefully tuned and produce good sounds that are easy on the ear. Along with other instruments with bars such as xylophones and metallophones, an ensemble is developed each year that participates in the annual ONZA Marimba Festival. These instruments enable fun-filled music-making which help develop many skills and understandings in music.
Another yearly event regularly attended by Henderson Valley music students is the "Kiwileles Festival". The ukulele renaissance has certainly hit the Valley and, thanks to the donation of 20 ukuleles from the Ukulele Trust, Henderson Valley children have been able to actively participate in this trend.
The Henderson Valley Rock Band "The Next ?uestion" provides opportunity for skilled guitarists, drummers, singers and pianists to experience playing together and performing popular songs. You can catch them at many of our whole school assemblies and also playing front of house at the Marimba festival in September each year. All participants of our music groups dedicate themselves for the whole year and put in many hours of practise.
